Status update controls customize details about when post statuses will be sent.

Do not post statuses by default

This is separate from the Basic Setting that enables publishing post statuses. That enables status updates for that post type; this adjusts the default setting for whether a given post will be posted.

With the default settings, an enabled post type will show the XPoster meta box expanded, and will post an update when that post is published.

If “Do not post statuses by default” is checked, then the meta box will be collapsed by default, and you will need to choose the option “Post” in order to send a status update.

Do not post statuses by default when editing

The same as above, but only when editing a published post.

Allow status updates from Quick Edit

By default, if you use Quick Edit to update a post, nothing will be sent. You can enable this option to send updates when you use Quick Edit.

Enable Rate Limiting

Rate limiting is a set of options to limit the number of posts per hour that can be shared from your site. With this option enabled, you’ll have several additional controls available that relate to limiting posts by time. This is particularly important when using X.com with the free API tier, which limits you to no more than 17 updates a day.

Rate limiting has a default global setting when enabled:

Rate limiting enabled; shows field to set rate limit per category per hour.

The rate limit is divided by category, and limits the number of updates per category per hour.

You can further customize the number of updates a specific category is allowed by editing the term:

Custom setting for a specific term's rate limits.
